Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the National Master Plan for Multi-modal Connectivity (PM Gati Shakti). The multi-modal connectivity will provide integrated and seamless connectivity for movement of people, goods and services from one mode of transport to another. It will facilitate the last mile connectivity of infrastructure and also reduce travel time for people.
Referring to the PM GatiShakti Master Plan, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government will take up ropeway connectivity works under the National Ropeways Development programme (Parvatmala) on PPP mode as a preferred ecologically-sustainable alternative to conventional roads. It is also likely to cover congested urban areas where a conventional mass transit system is not feasible. The programme will be implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways - India. Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said eight ropeway projects with a cumulative length of 60 km will be bid out during 2022-23.
