Part of the successful application to the European Union for the “European Green Capital 2017” was therefore the formulation of the goal of changing the modal split to 25% each for motorized vehicle, local public transport, pedestrian and bicycle traffic by 2035. An Essen mobility plan is to be created by 2022, in which measurable goals, content, action plans and priorities are mapped.

Supporting and promoting such approaches and ideas is the goal and intention of urban transport policy.
